Nationals Interested in Aaron Heilman

The Nationals have joined the group of several teams that have expressed interest in Aaron Heilman this winter. Heilman has made atleast 70 relief appearances each of the past 5 seasons, and is looking to become a starter this year. Heilman posted a 4.50 ERA with the Diamondbacks last year. Heilman would join Jayson Werth, Adam LaRoche, Tom Gorzelanny, and others on a revamped Nationals team.

Final Piece for Gorzelanny

MLB.com reports that left-handed pitcher Graham Hicks is the third player sent to the Cubs in the Gorzelanny trade.

Nationals Sign Alex Cora

The Nationals have signed Alex Cora to a 900k minor league contract. The deal includes 600k in performance bonuses. Cora will battle with pinch-hitter Matt Stairs for the final bench spot on the major league roster.

Nats Acquire Tom Gorzelanny

The Cubs have traded Tom Gorzelanny to the Nationals for Michael Burgess, A.J Morris, and another pitching prospect. This is a good deal for the Nats as they have a added a good left-handed starting pitcher, he is arbitration-eligible for the second time (he is a super two player). He will be a free agent after the 2013 season.

Nats Avoid Arbitration with John Lannan

The Nationals avoided arbitration with John Lannan agreeing to a one-year, $2.75MM deal.

Go All Out for Upton; Also, hello Nats Town!

Hello, I am new here, my name is Tanner, call me TSHURTZ. I am 14 years old and love talking about baseball, no matter what team it is. My favorite team is the Angels, but I have always had a soft spot for the Nationals. I think they are a great team, and they will contend in the next 4-5 years (possibly). This will be my first post for this Nats blog, and I'm happy to be here.

In the offseason, the Nats added big-time outfielder Jayson Werth, they plan to build their future team around him, Zimmerman, Stras, and Harper. Why not add up-and-coming star outfielder Justin Upton? This outfield could look like this:Upton in LF, Werth in CF, and Harper in RF. Now, what will it take to get Upton? A package like: Jordan Zimmerman, Ian Desmond, Wilson Ramos, and either a bullpen piece OR a B prospect. This would be a great trade for both sides (don't complain about trading Ramos away, since he hasn't hit the show yet, plus Derek Norris is still waiting in the wings), Upton is signed through 2016. Upton is definitely worth the price, he has shown all the hype, and would look good in D.C.

Adam LaRoche

Nationals Sign first baseman Adam LaRoche to a two year deal with a club option for a third season. The deal will pay him between $8-9M a season. LaRoche spent last season with the Diamondbacks, hitting 25 HR's and 100 RBI's, and has also spent time with the Braves, Red Sox, and Pirates.  LaRoche brings a left-handed bat to a team that is filled with righties.
